President George W. Bush will forever be held accountable for the shame, disgrace, and embarrassment that befell our country in the massive, lengthy, delayed response in assisting the victims of Hurricane Katrina. For his two terms in office, present historians have predicted it will
Regardless, we in society, in all facets of life, hold the top Supreme Authorities responsible for all evil -- except in matters of religion. One never hears such a blasphemous query as “Why did your Supreme God – one that is worshipped and revered as being all-loving and omniscient -- create and allow Hurricane Katrina, 9/11, the Church’s Inquisition, or any other historical killing machine?” If it is uttered, the defense usually is, “We many times do not know why God does anything, but He has his reasons,” followed by numerous, irrelevant, useless Old Testament examples of the slaughter-ing of millions. World-renowned churches and religions in our predominant Christian-Judaic stream simply call it Apologetics, a euphemistic term to make feeble attempts to explain absurdities, contradictions, and unexplainable life’s atroc-ities.
Christians and Jews viciously condemn the suicide
The culture that confronts society today, an over-sexualized, materialistic culture, is one that bathes in the muddy swamps of a Christian-Judeo culture, an apparent oxymoron, but not so if one realizes the two are totally separate entities, the latter being a culture of irrelevance and uselessness for “survival of the fittest” in our real world – comparable to sending flowers to the family of a deceased loved one. It profits neither the family nor the deceased.
During my many months of illness, while being visited by a select few, caring people, some would leave my bedside with the pious farewell, “We will pray for you,” only to find themselves in total shock at my blunt query, “Which is supposed to do what?” How I longed to add, “It would be so much help if you could send a meal to my wife and children, write a small check to my car insurance company, or do something meaningful since all my finances have been totally severed.”

Alabama’s Chief Justice Al Moore, in 2001, refused to move the monument of the Ten Commandments from the state’s judicial building. His fellow justices, all of whom also proclaimed to be devout Christians, succumbed to the federal court’s mandate without question, and had the monument moved to a storage site out of the public’s view. Moore appealed the decision all the way to the Supreme Court. He not only lost at every level, but was also ousted from his position as Chief Justice. At every level, the “Separation of Church and State” was the given rationale, enkindling the bonfire anger of the Christian Right in the predominating flames of this southern “Bible state.” The underlying message? One does not need to view any irrelevant, useless icon such as a Ten Commandment monument before entering any judicial building, a l Madalyn Murray O’Hair, the avowed, atheistic revolutionary, did not cause the removal of the utterance of God, the presence of any bible, etc. from schools and public invocations. The Christian-Judeo “supreme” judges who unwittingly supported her, with their legal rationales did, opening wide the palace doors of a movement, now underway, to remove the phrase, “So help me God” from the President’s Oath of Office. Again, the message: The mention or belief in any god or its man-created religion is devoid of any relevance or meaning in our lives. At her many rallying speeches, O’Hair often heralded the maxim: “The bible says, ‘If one strikes you on one check, turn the other cheek.’ Tell that to your debt collectors while you are unemployed, to your power company after it shuts off your electricity for non-payment, or to your insurance company for non-payment on the policy you have paid on for years.”
Thousands of devout Christians and Jews flock to their churches and synagogues every weekend, a simple psycho-emotional, habitual, unconscious pro-cedure that allows them to “share the Word of God,” “share in Christian fellow-ship,” “renew commitments of ‘accepting Jesus as your personal savior,’” “receive God’s blessings,” “receive the Body of Christ,” and be renewed via the preacher’s pious incantations of “applying God’s rules to our daily lives.” Now what happens from Monday through Friday when these same devotees must return to the vicious, vile business world and to the phobic realisms of their own personal lives? All the previous weekend's religious blessings, maxims, and exhortations are instantly forgotten -- for two reasons: Irrelevant and useless. WJK-10/08 |
be noted for all future generations in history books that this was his greatest faux pas. President Bush, a week after Hurricane Katrina left its mark, willingly “assumed responsibility” for the devastating lack of response, but wisely camouflaged it by immediately stating, “We will make every effort possible to see what went wrong on the various federal and state levels and correct it,” implying that he is not the one to blame, but rather the various labyrinth of bureaucratic hierarchy of personnel.
bombers of present; yet rarely realize that these same maniacal individuals are comparable to them-selves who believe in a one, true God. Example: Catholics for centuries were ingrained from childhood that missing Mass on Sunday (Saturday did not count) gave them a one-way ticket to burn forever in Hell. Various biblical verses were utilized to support this man-made, ecclesiastical dogma. Suicide bombers simply follow such a comparable absurdity with their own source as the Koran or any other “Holy Book” they deem necessary to justify the means to the end. Killing the enemies of Allah rockets the suicide bomber straight to Heaven.
